Phamacy Day 2010
Students will be engaged in fun general pharmacy activities such as compounding/mixing medications, then student teams will have the opportunity to become “specialists” in one of four areas: asthma, hypertension, immunization, and diabetes. Students will learn about prevention, monitoring, and treatment as it pertains to their specialty areas. One of the best parts of this event is that student teams will actually develop a short presentation/activity to bring back to their schools and/or communities to teach others what they learned at UCSD Skaggs School of Pharmacy.
Fun-filled activities for the day will include demonstrations on how to use asthma medication devices, creating action plans and a balloon competition! Make a difference and help teach others in your community learn about the importance of asthma awareness.
Historically, vaccines have prevented millions of deaths from diseases such as polio, influenza, and measles. Learn about the different vaccines available, how often they should be administered, and how to give shots!
Learn learn some basics about hypertension, the risk factors, diagnosis and treatment. Measure your measuring their own
blood pressure with both manual and automatic monitors.
Diabetes can lead to serious complications and premature death, including heart disease, stroke, blindness, high blood pressure, kidney disease, nervous system disease, amputations, dental disease and pregnancy complications. Learn about prevention and treatments!
